Against the Grain

Published: 07 Aug 2010

Sandra, the co- creator of JBRT is going on a great adventure across the desert!!!! I am following this fantastic story:

'Jim, Anton, Terry and Craig spend every moment of every day in a wheelchair. On the 8th of August they are embarking on the adventure of a lifetime, riding quad bikes across some of the most arid and desolate parts of Australia. They will travel from Fremantle to Adelaide via Uluru and Birdsville. They will cover 5000km as they each visit the crash sites where they injured their spines as young men, due to motorcycle or car crashes. Halfway through the trip, in Uluru, Anton is going to marry the love of his life, Kate, who is 26 weeks pregnant with twins.'

The men are going on a journey of adventure and discovery while at the same time want to raise awareness about spinal injuries.

Their epic adventure is called ‘Against the Grain’ www.againstthegrain.org.au.

From the road we will blog as much as possible (internet access permitting), and you can follow the journey of these four inspirational men at: http://journeybeyondroadtrauma.org/blogs

I’ve just gone onto the website “Against the grain,” and am amazed at the bravery and tenacity of these four men!

They have been through so much in their lives and are now putting a positive slant on their lives to encourage others in the same position. They are showing that you can overcome anything if you put your mind to it, and it will help both themselves and others who watch the documentary when it’s aired.

The story will be so inspiring, and a credit to the four men involved. I can’t wait to watch it!

I would like people in the Brisbane area that there is a fund raising event for JRBT and its coming up shortly. The event is Games Just for Fun and will be held on Saturday Nov 20. The consists of playing games such as active games like tag and various ball games as well as miming, debating and acting games which are low physical active games. Overall the night goes for 2 to 2 1/2 hours and participants will play between 12 to 16 games. Entry includes tea/coffee with home made biscuits. Costs is $15 per person or $40 per family (2 adults and up to 3 children over the age of 10 and under 16). All you need to bring is yourself and to be waring clothing suitable for movement. This event is held at the Albion Peace Hall 102 McDonald Road Windsor. To book please email me at plongland@hotmail.com or ph 0422 367 757.

These nights are great fun and fantastic way to de-stress, and don’t we all need that from time to time.

Hi everyone :) I am new here and I just wanted to make sure you are all aware of a community group that we have created in response to the recent death of my 17 yo nephew.

JELLY-aid

It all started off as a tribute gig but due to my nephew’s popularity it has become quite a lot bigger. JELLY-aid is set to take place on the 8th of Oct 2011 in Numurkah, Vic.

Currently we are in the process of fundraising (any ideas welcome) plus we are hoping to win a grant from Sunsuper (please go to JELLY-aid.com.au and follow the links to help us out).

If anyone is on Facebook please look us up, we would love to have you on board :)
