I'm feeling Okay.
I'm looking for connections with others affected by road trauma, ways to support others who have been affected by road trauma, tools to campaign for road safety, opportunities to educate others about the effect of reckless driving, and connections with other people affected by road trauma as i feel i may have some strength to offer them, that may help, if only slightly.
I'm here because I want to support someone who has been injured in a collision, I have personally been involved in a motor vehicle collision, I am involved in road safety education, a family member or friend has been affected by road trauma, and I speak twice a week at high schools with the Metropolitan Fire Service of South Australia. They run a program called the 'Road Awareness and Accident Prevention (RAAP) that goes about educating yr. 11's about taking responsibility, and ways to avoid the possible consequences that can come from making poor decisions..

My story

I crashed my stepfather’s car at 10.30 pm on a Wednesday night in May 2004. I had just turned 24. It was in the hills, it was raining, I was speeding, I was showing off.

I came over a slight rise heading into a right hand curve. I lost control on the curve, I drifted from the top of the corner towards some trees.

The trees were on the opposite side of the road to where I should have been. I hit them sideways.

2 months in Flinders Hospital (ICU for 2 weeks in a coma), 9 months at Hampstead Rehab. Centre. I then had 11 months formal, home-based rehab with Brain Injury Rehab & Community Housing (BIRCH). I now live permanent Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).
